Safeguard Your Home and Health

Radon is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless radioactive gas that naturally forms from the decay of uranium in soil, rock, and water. It can seep into homes through cracks in the foundation, gaps around pipes, and other openings, accumulating to dangerous levels indoors.

Radon is a silent threat that can accumulate in your home, posing serious health risks. Radon kills over 20 thousand people each year, and is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. Lightspeed Restoration’s radon mitigation solutions are designed to effectively reduce radon levels, ensuring a safer living environment for you and your loved ones.

Understanding Radon Mitigation

Radon mitigation is the process of reducing radon concentrations in the indoor air of a building. Given that radon is a colorless and odorless radioactive gas, it can infiltrate homes through foundation cracks and other openings. Long-term exposure to elevated radon levels is linked to an increased risk of lung cancer, making mitigation essential for homes with high radon readings.

Our Radon Mitigation Process

  1. Thorough Assessment: We begin with a detailed assessment of your home to identify radon entry points and evaluate the current radon levels.
  2. Customized Mitigation Plan: Based on our assessment, we develop a tailored mitigation plan that addresses the unique characteristics of your home.
  3. Sub-Slab Depressurization (SSD): The most common and effective method, SSD involves installing a vent pipe system and fan beneath the foundation to draw radon gas from the soil and expel it outside, away from your home.
  4. Sealing Cracks and Openings: We seal cracks and openings in the foundation and walls to prevent radon from entering your home, enhancing the effectiveness of the SSD system.
  5. Post-Mitigation Testing: After installation, we conduct post-mitigation testing to ensure that radon levels have been effectively reduced to safe levels.

Residential Indoor Air Quality FAQs

Long-term exposure to elevated levels of radon increases the risk of lung cancer. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, responsible for about 21,000 deaths each year.

The only way to know if your home has elevated radon levels is through testing. Radon is invisible and odorless, so it cannot be detected by sight or smell. We recommend professional radon testing to obtain accurate readings.

Radon levels are measured in picocuries per liter (pCi/L). The EPA recommends taking action to mitigate radon if levels are at or above 4 pCi/L.

Even after mitigation, it is a good idea to test your home every two years to ensure radon levels remain low. Testing is also recommended after home renovations.
